LGBTQ+ at Victorian Auditor-General's Office

Our goal at VAGO is to create an environment where employees can be their authentic selves at work, whatever their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Sexuality and gender identity are major parts of who we are as people. At VAGO, we aim to create a visibly inclusive and safe workplace where all our employees feel safe and encouraged to be their authentic selves at work.

Our 2021 People Matter Survey showed that 8 per cent of our workforce is bisexual, gay or lesbian, asexual or pansexual. A further 11 per cent of our workforce preferred not to disclose their sexual orientation. One per cent of our staff identify as transgender, non-binary, or gender diverse, and 6 per cent preferred not to say.

As part of our diversity, inclusion and belonging plan, we are working to improve the existing positive culture within VAGO by:

  • increasing awareness of LGBTQIA+ staff
  • training and empowering staff and managers
  • promoting networking opportunities
  • enhancing our data collection and
  • reviewing HR policies for gender neutral and inclusive terminology.

Staff can also join our Pride at VAGO network! For more information about our objectives and targeted strategies we will implement to create an environment where staff can be their authentic selves at work, please read our full report; Our Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Plan 2022–2025 - https://bit.ly/3vzGBhO
