Pros & Cons

  • PKF Melbourne fosters a positive work culture led by supportive leaders who are happy to give guidance. Flexibility is also excellent, regarding work arrangements and mode of work
  • A flatter business structure means that you get to work closely with the partners and senior management, and get to perform more interesting, high-level tasks
  • High degree of engagement. Interns are given lots of exposure to do value added tasks, that contribute to the team's success. There is lots of support from the Partner to managers to junior accountants to assist you with questions and guide you with your learning.
  • A great social culture where everyone is extremely friendly and willing to help you learn and improve your skills.
  • The current premises aren't the best
  • It might not be the best fit for someone who prefers a stagnant pathway in their careers due to the plentiful opportunities found at PKF and the flexibility they offer.
  • The flexibility to work from home.
  • Communicating clear instructions in some circumstances could be improved.

At the moment the offices are quite tired, however the company is moving to a new building that is currently being built. This will improve things.

Pay is competitive with the industry at the intern/graduate level. However, the training you receive will greatly make up for it.

Training
Lots of training provided to staff to keep up to date with changing taxation policies, however not much differentiation between levels of competencies and experience, with blanket training programs for all staff.

Work Hours
If the hours in your contract are completed, it's fairly flexible. I've been in early at times and been able to leave early as I had an event on. Same thing in reverse, I've been able to come in late and work a bit later because I had an appointment in the morning.
