What it does: KPMG is one of the ‘Big Four’ professional services firms. They provide audit, tax and advisory services to organisations across a wide range of industries, government and not-for-profit sectors.

Staff stats: KPMG operates in 147 countries and have more than 227,000 people working in offices around the world. In Australia, they have approximately 9000 people, including over 400 partners, located in 13 offices around the country.

The good bits: KPMG's Graduate Program offers an excellent learning and development pathway that supports you with ongoing training, structured development programs and dedicated mentors from one of three flexible working hubs – home, office or client. They also offer a Vacationer program for students in their penultimate year and a Foundations program for students in their pre-penultimate years.

The not-so-good bits: Whilst the well-being of their people is the number one priority, the hours can sometimes be longer in busy periods but during those times the entire team works together as one collaborative group and support each other.  Outside of busy periods, this is balanced out by taking the time to celebrate achievements as a team.

About KPMG

We’re a global network of professional firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services across a wide range of industries, government and not-for-profit sectors. We came into being in 1987, when a variety of accounting firms in London, Amsterdam and New York, came together in one of the 1980’s largest ‘mega-mergers’. We provide a full range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of the mid-sized, fast-growing and family-owned businesses.

At KPMG Australia, we work with organisations across the nation’s industrial, governmental, and not-for-profit landscapes. We help our clients to solve complex challenges, optimise opportunities, steer change and accelerate sustainable growth. Our service areas include Audit, Assurance & Risk Consulting, Deals, Tax & Legal, Management Consulting, and Innovation & Digital Solutions.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Variety of projects, opportunities for growth and learning.
  • Super good company culture and interesting projects giving great opportunity to develop a range of skills.
  • The people and breadth of experience. You get the opportunity to learn from a range of knowledgeable people across a range of industries.
  • Everyone is very passionate about their work and keen on helping each other. There is a very supportive culture and as a graduate, I feel very welcomed. The diversity of people and the projects you get to work on are also very exciting.
  • The culture here is absolutely amazing. Of all the 4 or 5 interviews I did at the Big 4 and the big three management consulting firms, I just really, really found the interview and recruitment process at KPMG stood out. The recruiters and interviewers (Partner and Director) really took the time to get to know me, what I wanted, what my goals were. I definitely interviewed the firm as much as the company firm me. So - interview process was really person-centric. The culture now, while working here, is also great. The team gets to know you, is flexible, and you can bring your whole self to work.
  • Has a strong vision, values, and sense of purpose at a corporate level of working to create a better Australia.
  • The culture, environment and workplace. A good team and supportive seniors make work enjoyable and provide opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Occasional expectation to work additional hours when you have a tight deadline. Not very often though and the management team are understanding if you have prior commitments.
  • Being such a large organisation, it can sometimes be difficult to navigate who to reach out to for assistance with more administrative tasks.
  • The initial months were slow for workflow - expected as a graduate, however.
  • A lot to learn quickly, thrown in the deep end a little (this isn't entirely a bad thing though)
  • The worst thing is that I am not equipped with the skills to excel at my current position, but I am learning as much as possible every day.
  • Nothing so far. Some tight turnaround times but nothing out of the ordinary. I hear workload increases significantly as you progress, but as far as I can tell, there is plenty of support provided.
  • There can be tight deadlines that are non-negotiable.

I cannot stress this enough: take leaps and get involved. Play sports, work casually, volunteer for a cause you’re passionate about, join a social club or society. Long gone are the days when you would do a degree and finish with a job waiting for you.

Just because you’ve started full-time work, this does not mean you need to give up what you love. Work and/or study are just one part of what we do – take the opportunity to pursue whatever else may motivate you.
