Management at Grant Thornton

8.2
8.2 rating for Management, based on 74 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
Good access to managers and partners - you must be willing to step out of your comfort zone and build the relationship
Midlevel, Perth
Managers often come out on site to check in on the team and help out when issues are more complicated. The managers also defend you against rude clients and can help you talk to the clients if they are being difficult. Everyone is set up with an official mentor when they start and you meet up with them at least once a month so that they can buy you a coffee and chat about any concerns you might have and what your goals are and how they can help you to progress them. We also have twice yearly performance reviews to evaluate our progress on those goals and set new ones if we complete them. We also have an optional system for requesting written feedback at the end of each engagement which I particularly like as it allows me to keep a record of my positive feedback that I can collate for a time if I want to request a promotion or a raise.

Managers provide active mentorship. There is regular talk of performance feedback (formally twice a year and informally after every project) , praise and recognition done in monthly meetings along with $50 vouchers for outstanding work.

I feel really comfortable with some of my managers and less comfortable with others. They are all very knowledgeable and approachable in different ways.

There isn't too much interaction with managers as an associate. Feedback normally comes from review points although they are sometimes discussed in person depending on the manager

I am very satisfied with my managers. They are very approachable, professional, supportive and caring. They always make themselves available to talk to me, provide helpful and positive feedback, ensure I have enough work and am doing work I want to do, ask about my wellbeing and take interest in my non-work life.

My managers are quite good. They are always happy to help and are easy to engage with, however they can sometimes be very delayed in their responses. They can also be vague with their directions.

Depends on individual managers. I have had mainly good experiences but there are some managers I feel do not communicate well
