Sustainability

They are committed to maintaining a responsible and sustainable sugar supply chain while creating opportunities for their people and rural communities. They recognise the importance of sustainably managing their operations so that present needs are met, without compromising future generations.

They believe sustainability is about planning for the future and so they constantly monitor the prevailing economic and political climate, as well as the environmental and social impacts of their business, so they can continue to meet the challenges that lay ahead.

They continue to focus on measures that minimise their impact on the environment, such as optimisation of their energy and water demands, and reduction of their waste footprint. They recognise this commitment in their Sustainability Policy.

As part of their Sustainability Policy, they:

  • Promote and foster a culture of sustainability with their employees, contractors, visitors, suppliers, customers, and community;
  • Seek continuous improvement of their sustainability performance by setting measurable objectives aimed at the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the promotion of resource and energy efficiency
  • Identify and assess risks and opportunities related to the impacts of climate change across their business
  • Conduct their operations in compliance with all applicable legislation, licences, codes of practice, and industry standards
  • Share and regularly report on their sustainability performance with their employees and other interested parties
  • Implement, maintain and continuously improve the processes supporting certification to their chosen sustainability standards.

They’re dedicated to developing products and implementing technologies that are better for their environment and support a sustainable future for their industry, customers, and community. For example, sugarcane production on their farms is based on practices that limit erosion, minimise the chemical application, and reduce run-off into waterways.

Remuneration & Career Growth

They recognise their employees are their most important asset and look for people who are capable, innovative and passionate to join their team. Their operations span Australia and New Zealand in locations ranging from regional towns to capital cities through Wilmar Sugar Australia, Sugar Australia or New Zealand Sugar.

They align with Wilmar International’s core values.

They offer a wide range of career opportunities including corporate roles such as safety, human resources, legal, corporate relations, sales, marketing, finance, and IT. They also employ industry and technical specialists in engineering, logistics, operations, agronomy, farms, and quality assurance, as well as a range of trades.

They understand the importance of a skilled and engaged workforce to a successful business. To help their people achieve their full potential, they provide training and development opportunities and support further studies. Their learning and development pathways support their people from apprentice and graduate level, through to leadership positions.

They are a major provider of apprenticeship training in Queensland. At any time, there are about 120 apprentices employed in their sugar mills and bioethanol distilleries. They recruit about 35 new apprentices each year in trades such as electrical, boilermaking, fitting and turning, and diesel fitting. They also offer a graduate program for young professionals.
