Pros & Cons

  • The people. I love that I am given the opportunity to independently contribute to large scale projects and am supported to explore different avenues and provide meaningful input without being micromanaged.
  • Even though I'm still an intern, the team respect my ideas and work as much as everyone else which has made me feel really welcome and comfortable to learn.
  • The people culture is exceptional at IGO. Everyone is friendly and happy to help, it is rare to find someone who is unhappy at work. People are accepting and inclusive, even if you are an intern who is only there for 3 months. Also, no one thinks you are too far down the ladder to have a chat which is extremely refreshing.
  • Culture. Good social environment and issues raised are taken seriously and acted on quickly.
  • The wide range of experiences you are able to have in a short amount of time.
  • I cannot think of one bad thing about this company.
  • Honestly nothing I came across or can think of.
  • The food
  • Nothing that I can think of.
  • It gets hot out in the field!

Culture
I have found it extremely easy to get along with coworkers during and after office hours. I have found it refreshing to be able to have conversions with almost anyone on site - from the GM to operators to camp staff. After work, my team usually gets dinner together, some people go to the gym together. As someone who moved from another state for my internship, even once the work week is over, my colleagues are still helpful and have offered me transport, recommendations for places to visit and have given me their contacts should I ever need help. At work, the teams work extremely well. It isn't a strict work environment which I think helps people relax and actually enjoy work.

Diversity
The company has a clear commitment to diversity. The parental leave is extensive to allow for both partners to be able to take time away from work. There is also a strong focus on the recruitment and retention of women, ethnic minorities and the LGBTQIA+ community. The company also is a part of pride professionals which focuses on the support of employees apart of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Office Work Environment
Facilities are very good for lifestyle and work. Site has multiple break rooms, bathrooms and large office spaces - easy to request new office equipment if needed. Lifestyle facilities include a gym, multiple laundries, wet mess, dry mess and tennis court. There's also a walking track and I believe there is a bike hire which is pretty cool

Work Hours

Work Hours
I work 8 days on, 6 days off. The days I work, I work 12 hour days. My work is reasonably flexible. It is really easy to take leave but since it is FIFO work, you do have to plan a bit. Starting and leaving work early is pretty easy, as long as you get your hours in.
