Culture at CSIRO

9.0
9.0 rating for Culture, based on 44 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
There is not much socialisation. The hierarchy is loose, so everyone is quite kind.
Intern, Perth
There is a good culture, however it is very professional and not very social. There is limited to no out of hours contact with my colleagues. There is a great team environment at CSIRO, with many small groups and team leaders. Everyone is treated with respect and their opinions and ideas are listened too.
Intern, Adelaide
Everyone has been extremely welcoming to me, with my supervisor spending most lunch breaks with us answering any questions we have both work specific and industry wide questions.
Intern, Melbourne
The culture here at CSIRO feels very plastic. There are always emails going around regarding events and inclusion of everyone, however, I have not experienced this culture working here full time yet. Meetings at CSIRO feel very empty and drag on. There is undoubtedly a strong teamwork culture, however, overall it feels like ultimately a lot of time passes here with not a lot getting done.
Intern, Newcastle
The culture is fantastic. Everyone seems to get along, and are working on very cool things. The workplace vibe is very positive. The only reason why I deduct two points to go from 10 to 8 is because I noticed that is always the men who mostly speak up in meetings, and I also noticed that there are people who talk over women in meetings, which I find a bit disrespectful because of how I was raised.

I understand that I am quite sheltered from higher corporation, but my team itself is wonderful. As I previously mentioned, the high diversity amongst our team is deemed only beneficial and the respect between staff members, regardless of role, is highly appreciated. After hours interaction is limited to just things that cannot wait until tomorrow; your own time is respected too.

I have good communication with my supervisor and the other interns around me
Intern, Melbourne
Really good communication and valuing of others ideas. After work activities and social interaction are frequent. People like who they work with.
Intern, Brisbane
Although there is obviously a hierarchy in job roles at the company (i.e. bosses), everyone all receives the same level of respect and acknowledgement. It is very easy to talk to those in a higher position than you. They listen to anything you have to say, and are also very open minded about feedback and suggestions made. After work, the friendliness between colleagues still stands, as although we have only been with the company for less than three weeks, we were eagerly welcomed and invited to attend the company's Christmas party.

The culture is very egalitarian, top managers are as approachable as the staff I share the workspace with. Lunch time is usually very social with games to play and great food to eat.
Intern, Bribane
It's good and there are plenty of opportunities to socialise and work with colleagues.
Intern, Townsville
We have an internal social media platform to share our daily lives. Colleagues are bonded through different events such as tea sessions. Occasionally, there are invites for drinks after hours during celebrations.

Everyone in the CSIRO Energy office Newcastle is very friendly and everyone goes out of their way to introduce themselves

Everyone I have met likes the company
Intern, Brisbane
In the office there is strong team values, everyone is friendly. Different teams socialise together. in the office there is a managerial hierarchy but everyone is kind of friends anyway. Normally everyone cooperates and is grateful to be involved in other projects. sometimes colleagues socialise outside of work hours
Intern, Sydney
Strong emphasis on workers health and safety, both mentally and physically. Supervisors are responsive if you have any issues with the work you have been given, e.g. excessive workload. Most work is independent, but others generally willing to help out where able to. Regularly meet up with colleagues during lunch breaks to talk and play table tennis. Usually only contact during office hours, however some experiments require some level of input outside of office hours.
Intern, Melbourne
It's very inclusive, and very flexible
Intern, Perth
All my colleagues have been so friendly and welcoming. The women I work in the office with are extremely welcoming and the staff from the Academy who I have mostly met virtually have also been very friendly and welcoming
Intern, Perth
Everyone is very friendly and approachable, plenty of opportunity to catch up and talk
Intern, Sydney
The culture at CSIRO is amazing. From day 1 I felt welcomed and supported. The office environment is great too. There is a social club and regular events for staff to get involved in.
