The Story of WarnerBros Australia

On 8 April 2022, WarnerMedia and Discovery combined to become Warner Bros. Discovery. The new company combines WarnerMedia’s premium sports, news, and entertainment assets with Discovery’s leading sports, non-fiction and international entertainment businesses. With offices in 30 regions worldwide,  they are home to the world’s best storytellers, creating world-class products for consumers.

The company’s vast library has over 61,000 hours of programming, including more than 6,500 feature films and about 3,000 television programs consisting of tens of thousands of individual episodes.

The merged Warner Bros. Discovery organisation has multiple lines of business across Australia, including content production, franchise, free-to-air and subscription TV, commercial partnerships, consumer products, streaming and award-winning news via Newshub.

WB Australia is administered from its head office in Neutral Bay, New South Wales, and divides its operation into four business divisions: Television Distribution (the distribution of international TV programmes), Theatrical Distribution (the distribution of motion picture films), Consumer Product Licensing (the granting of licences for the right to use Warner Bros. Properties and trademarks in consumable products), and Feature Productions (the production of motion picture films and television series).

Culture & vibe

Creating the world’s greatest content means having the world’s greatest team. This is a great place to work if you are interested in media and entertainment. Staff are encouraged to act as one team that trusts each other, grows together, and succeeds together. They prioritise the development and well-being of their teams.

WB Australia’s permanent workforce is mostly office-based, focused primarily on marketing and sales activities related to their distribution and licensing businesses. They are supported by a small number of administrative and financial personnel. The production workforces are usually engaged by project and consist largely of skilled labour covered by collective bargaining agreements.

To tell stories that entertain and inspire their viewers, they need to foster creativity by giving them the freedom to try new things and produce their best work. In this fast-paced and creative environment, team members need to be curious, innovative, and focus on the future, while also seeking out diversity intentionally, respecting and supporting each other.

Recruitment process

To join the WB Australia team, you need to go to Warner Bros. Discovery’s website and select the job of your interest by location. If you are shortlisted, you will be contacted to set up an interview that usually consists of two or three rounds. The company will also conduct a background check that might take a little longer.

The first interview is usually with the HR team who will ask you standard questions about yourself, your prior experience regarding your resume, your enthusiasm for their shows, and your knowledge about the company. The next interview is with peers and the hiring manager or other leaders. The questions are a mix of analytical, strategic reasoning, and technical (if applicable).

Other examples of the interview questions are what you can offer and why they should pick you over the other candidates, your salary expectation, what projects you have worked on and who are your key stakeholders, what significant milestones got you to your current position, and how you have used your experiences in a positive way throughout your life.
