The Volkswagen Group story

Volkswagen AG, known internationally as the Volkswagen Group, is a German multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany.

The company is publicly traded but controlled by Porsche SE, which in turn is half-owned and fully controlled by the Austrian-German Porsche and Piëch family. The company designs, manufactures and distributes passenger and commercial vehicles, motorcycles, engines and turbomachinery, as well as offering related services, including financing, leasing and fleet management. In 2016, it was the world's largest automaker by sales, overtaking Toyota and keeping this title in 2017, 2018 and 2019, selling 10.9 million vehicles. It has maintained the largest market share in Europe for over two decades. It ranked seventh in the 2020 Fortune Global 500 list of the world's largest companies.

The Volkswagen Group sells passenger cars under the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Cupra, Lamborghini, Porsche, RUF, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen brands.

It also sells motorcycles under the Ducati name; light commercial vehicles under the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand; and heavy commercial vehicles via the marques of listed subsidiary Traton (IC Bus, International, MAN, Scania and Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus). It is divided into two primary divisions—the Automotive Division and the Financial Services Division—and as of 2008, it had about 342 subsidiary companies. Volkswagen also has two major joint ventures in China, FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen. The company has operations in roughly 150 countries, and it has 100 production facilities across 27 countries.

Volkswagen was founded in 1937 to manufacture the car that would become known as the Beetle. The company's production grew rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1965, it acquired Auto Union, which subsequently produced the first postwar Audi models. Volkswagen launched a new generation of front-wheel drive vehicles in the 1970s, including the Passat, Polo and Golf; the last became its bestseller. Volkswagen acquired a controlling stake in SEAT in 1986, making it the first non-German marque of the company. It acquired control of Škoda in 1994, then of Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti in 1998, then of Ducati, MAN, Porsche and RUF in 2012, and finally of Traton in 2013. The company's operations in China have grown rapidly in the past decade, with the country becoming its largest market. As of 1 January 2021, the Lower Saxony state owns a 20% share of Volkswagen.

Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft is a public company and has a primary listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, where it is a constituent of the Euro Stoxx 50 stock market index, and a secondary listings on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and SIX Swiss Exchange. It has been traded in the United States via American depositary receipts since 1988, currently on the OTC Marketplace. Volkswagen delisted from the London Stock Exchange in 2013. The government of Lower Saxony holds 12.7% of the company's shares, granting it, by law, 20% of the voting rights.

Recruitment process

Step 1. Application

It is the most important moment because everything begins here. Therefore, proper attention should be given to this stage. See if the tasks in the description of a particular position suit you - they may soon be your tasks... Be sure to check whether your education, experience and skills correspond to our expectations. If yes, do not wait, apply - do not let others get ahead of you! Work at VWP is something!

Step 2. Selection

Our recruiters and professional department check each application for compliance with the requirements of a given position. They are very meticulous; therefore, it sometimes takes several days to complete the selection process. Unfortunately, at this stage we have to decline some candidates - they receive information via e-mail. We pray you are not one of them!

Step 3: First stage

  • Administrative posts

Assessment Centre - is the first recruitment stage for administrative positions. A group of 6 candidates participate in this exercise, which aim is to verify the skill of cooperation and communication in a team. You will receive feedback immediately after completing the task. .

  • Production posts

Manual exercises - is the first recruitment stage for production posts. The goal of the exercise is to check manual skills and professional predispositions. You will receive feedback immediately after completing the task.

Step 4. Recruitment interview

During the interview, you will get the opportunity to speak to someone from the personnel department and a representative of the professional division. No stress. We merely want to get to know you better! The CV is for us an “introduction”, so we will ask you for details regarding education, experience and various skills. In turn, you will get to meet your future superior and learn more about your position.

Step 5. Decision

After meeting with all the candidates, the superior decides who will join his/her team. After this stage, we inform everyone - regardless of the recruitment results. We do so because we want to thank everyone personally for their effort and time!

Controversies

The Volkswagen emissions scandal, sometimes known as Dieselgate or Emissionsgate, began in September 2015, when the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a notice of violation of the Clean Air Act to German automaker Volkswagen Group. The agency had found that Volkswagen had intentionally programmed turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engines to activate their emissions controls only during laboratory emissions testing, which caused the vehicles' NO x  output to meet US standards during regulatory testing, while they emitted up to 40 times more NO x  in real-world driving. Volkswagen deployed this software in about 11 million cars worldwide, including 500,000 in the United States, in model years 2009 through 2015.
