The opportunity to work on large projects with experts from different fields to deliver a project that serves the community. It is fascinating to follow these projects from their inception, overcome any challenges that arise, and witness their progress.

The construction industry was out of my comfort zone when I first started (and a little now, I’m still learning) so most of the experiences I have had here are a first for me!

A balanced lifestyle is the key to success. Work hard but also take some time to hang out with friends, play with your pet or go for a run. 

A part of my job includes estimating how many vehicle trips a new development will generate, and how we can distribute these trips for better traffic management and flow.

Embrace every opportunity – There are so many clubs, networking events and workshops available at universities. Additionally, get involved with industry associations and their events. Having a network of people within the industry that you want to work in is extremely beneficial.

The coolest thing about being an engineer is being able to see large-scale projects come to fruition. Being able to build relationships within your team and other teams within the organisation is also very satisfying as well as being able to work within a team that everyone can thrive in.

The coolest thing about my job is the fact that I help develop life-critical safety equipment which is used worldwide in all types of buildings and facilities, enabling those occupants to carry-on with their own potentially lifesaving or ground-breaking work
