Resumes 101: Tips & Tricks for Students from SAS

Whatever career opportunity that you’re looking, a strong resume will help you stand out from the crowd and make a good first impression.

Did you know that recruiters spend, on average, just 7 seconds reviewing a resume. So how do you get your resume noticed? Start with using similar, but relevant language from the job description. And did you also know that companies now use AI tools to sort resumes? So, using similar language can makes your resume easier for a recruiter to find.

Start with the basics and include your name, email address and phone number. And then move onto education and your anticipated graduation date. Why anticipated graduation date? It helps recruiters determine your eligibility for scheduled internship program or early career opportunities. So maybe find out when these programs run. 

And of course, build out the experience section of your resume, to show why you're a great fit for the opportunity. Start with your most recent experience and work backwards in time. Write about the impact you’ve made, whether on projects, in previous roles or through volunteer work. And make sure the recruiter understands your skills and why they are relevant.
