Brief History of Willis Towers Watson

This company was born in 2015 from a merger between Willis Group and Towers Watson. The merger deal had an aggregate value of $18 million (£14.8 million). The company maintained its listing on the New York Stock Exchange. That same year, WTW was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange and was listed on NASDAQ. Willis Group acquired what was left of Gras Savoye and also bought a controlling stake in Miller, which was one of the top wholesale insurance brokerage firms in London then. The merger deal was eventually completed in 2016 after much opposition and underwhelming support.

In 2020, the firm was nearly purchased by Aon, which would have made the latter the largest insurer in the world, but the US Department of Justice opposed the move, and it didn't fall through. In early 2022, Carl Hess assumed the position of CEO and president. 9 days later, the company's stock ticker symbol on NASDAQ changed from WLTW to WTW. In mid-2022, WTW acquired Butterwire, a brand known for Fintech, data analytics, and computer technology.

Culture & Vibe

The culture of this insurance firm is established on five core values, namely Client Focus, Teamwork, Respect, Excellence, and Integrity. These values guide the organisation’s code of conduct. Employees generally have a cordial relationship with each other, which enhances collaboration on tasks and projects, resulting in increased productivity. The company respects its employees and values their opinions. WTW is conscious about creating an inclusive environment to ensure that every fresh graduate or intern feels welcome in the company regardless of the diversity in their race, religion, political affiliation, sexuality, gender, marital status, and socioeconomic background. The company's dress code is business casual.

Career Prospects

WTW provides promising career opportunities and prospects for its apprentices, new graduates, and interns. This firm won the 2021 edition of The Learning Awards’ Apprenticeship Programme of the Year. This says a lot about its apprenticeship programme, which serves as a wonderful alternative for school leavers who can earn a salary while building their work experience and learning through the company's training resources. Its internship programme offers the company’s interns real employment experience by giving them real office assignments and placing them in teams. This allows them to learn from seasoned experts during the course of the programme. Finally, its graduate programme allows freshers to network with bright minds and senior leaders and transform into high-value employees.
