What's your job about?

Police Bank is a member-owned bank that provides a range of financial products and services. My role involves the accurate completion of mortgage documentation, providing mortgage instructions to solicitors, the processing of mortgage settlements and construction loans. Handling requests for subdivisions, 2nd mortgages and deceased matters. Completing various loan reports and ensuring effective risk management. I also liaise with various internal and external stakeholders such as lenders, solicitors and insurance companies.

What's your background?

I completed a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in finance and a minor in accounting at Macquarie University. During this time, I worked at Woolworths supermarket as a store team member, providing high-quality customer service. I actively participate in park run on Saturday mornings either volunteering or running. I have been working in this current position for 11 months, which has allowed me to expand on my skills and knowledge.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, someone with a different background can do this job as it does not require discipline-specific knowledge, however, knowledge in accounting or finance does help. To excel in this role you will need to have high attention to detail, effective time management, the ability to work in a team and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

I believe being able to directly handle and manage the life of a loan, allows me to suggest and implement ways to improve internal processes to be more efficient.

What are the limitations of your job?

There is a responsibility to accurately complete multiple tasks with tight deadlines and being able to effectively problem-solve and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

  1. Get work experience, as this will allow you gain new skills and knowledge and may open doors to new opportunies.
  2. Network - get involved in extracurricular activities, volunteer or join clubs in university.
  3. Get out of your comfort zone and be open to new challenges and opportunies.
