Our company does have CSR projects that we participate in, such as world clean up day and volunteer days that employees can use to partake in a volunteer event. However, I have yet to participate in one, so the company could do a better job of raising awareness and making it more accessible to participate in these events.

There is a team dedicated to Sustainability and they have run multiple initiatives with schools to increase digital literacy and awareness amongst students (also known as the Digital Thumbprint Program). On campus, there also bins dedicated for General Waste, Recycling and food wastage. There are also collection boxes on campus which collect batteries and old phones.

Optus offers volunteer leave, I think they should be more deliberate about getting employees to use that leave

I work closely with the Sustainability team, so i see the initiatives they work on. My favourite so far is the recyclable containers sponsors by the Kari foundation. You can scan a bottle, drop it into the bin and the 10c donation goes to charity.

Overall we do have volunteers leave and certain goals/commitments/projects but I personally don't feel like we see enough of it. Telecommunications use a lot of electricity and I would like to see what we are doing for the environment.

Optus can do substantially more to invest in renewable & sustainable infrastructure. Recycling bins on campus is insufficient in my opinion.
