Fiona Zheng

I would encourage future students to attend careers expos so that they can meet with EY people and gain personal insights into the EY experience.

My name is Fiona Zheng and I am a Senior Consultant in the Technology Transformation team at EY based in Canberra. I have been at EY for almost two years now since I joined as a lateral hire in March 2020 after spending 4.5 years in various technology implementation roles. I studied a Bachelor of Science majoring in Water Science Policy and Psychology at the Australia National University and a Master of Professional Accounting at the University of Canberra.

Three skills you have learnt at EY

  1. Adaptability – The technology consulting industry is constantly changing. I have learnt to keep abreast of industry trends and continuously prepare to adapt to changes in all their forms to help tackle new challenges for the clients.
  2. Teamwork – At EY, using a network of colleagues in diverse teams across countries and service lines as a platform to support your work is crucial to your career success. This has allowed me to develop collaboration skills, and leverage different people’s knowledge and skillsets.
  3. Leadership – As a senior consultant, I have had the opportunity to coach and mentor more junior team members, pass on my knowledge and help to advise people matters within my consulting group. This has assisted them in developing their skills and building a pipeline of future leaders for EY.

What’s your advice for incoming graduates and vacationers?

I would encourage future students to attend careers expos so that they can meet with EY people and gain personal insights into the EY experience. A career in consulting means a high level of flexibility and adaptability, I, therefore, would also encourage students to be open-minded about their career opportunities and take time to explore different possibilities within the organisations before deciding on shaping their future career direction.
