I usually arrive at the office at around 9.00 am and get some breakfast from the pantry. There are a lot of options to choose from but I usually just get some museli and fruit. I'll then head back to my desk and take a moment to get organized and settle in, after which I review any emails or messages that have come in overnight and prioritize my tasks for the day.
10:00 AM
I attend a daily stand-up meeting with my team. We discuss ongoing projects, and any updates, and identify any potential roadblocks. This is also where we will discuss any production issues that may have happened the previous day.
10:30 AM
After the standup, I'll usually check if any of my changes were deployed overnight. The cool thing about here is that the software deployment process is very quick - if I make a change it can get deployed to production within the next few days.
So I'll usually verify that the application has started up without issues and that the changes I made are working correctly. It's critical to do this early because we need to make sure it's working before the market opens. Hong Kong is our main market and that opens at 9:30 HKT which is 12:30 in our time.
12:00 PM
I take a break for lunch with my coworkers. We usually go outside to eat - there are tons of options around the office. I use this time to recharge and refuel and have a chat with colleagues.
1:00 PM
After lunch, I'm feeling refreshed and ready to dive into my work. I'm working on a new feature for one of the projects I'm a part of. These projects are usually across multiple teams so I usually have to collaborate with the teams to provide input and suggestions, as well as make sure it fits the requirements properly.
This is also the time when people in the Hong Kong office are settling into the office and after the market has opened so it can be very busy.
3:00 PM
It's now time for the weekly team meeting, where any announcements are made and we discuss things like projects or just anything that arose that requires focused discussion.
6:00 PM
I wrap up my work for the day and prepare for tomorrow's tasks.
I always like to do something physically active after work since I'm spending the entire day thinking. I'll usually go for a scenic run around the city, taking advantage of the views. Or other times I'll go play badminton with my coworkers.
