Kitty Malam

After a day of Ministerial Support Officer training and refining my tasks at the department, I unwind by playing basketball with friends from the grad program—a perfect balance of professional growth and personal enjoyment.

7.00 AM

My alarm goes off and I get up to begin my day.

7.30 AM

I put on my news podcast (highly recommend ABC News Daily), and drive into work.

8.00 AM

My floor at work has hot desking so when I get into the office, I head to the area my team sits and choose a desk to set up at.

8.30 AM

After saying hello to my colleagues I go through any emails, looking for updates, new tasks, and to check what I have on for the day ahead. Today I have Ministerial Support Officer training (one of the opportunities we are offered as grads at the department).

9.30 AM

I meet up with some friends who are also attending the training to grab a coffee before we head to training.

11.30 AM

We have a quick break midway through the training so a couple of grads and I go check out the snack corner.

1.00 PM

The training finishes up. I’m feeling excited to go work in the minister’s office soon. I head to lunch with a couple of friends from the training session. Usually, I pack lunch but today I decided to walk up to Woden plaza, about a 2-minute walk away, to get some fresh sushi. It’s a lovely day outside so we go and sit under a tree and chat before heading back to work.

1.30 PM

I have a meeting with my supervisor to discuss my progress on my current task. She is happy with the direction it’s heading in and gives me direction to decrease the scope of my work so that it can be targeted & specific to our program.

2.30 PM

I head back to my desk to implement the changes we spoke about in the meeting. I have a couple of messages to reply to and then I get into my work.

4.00 PM

Its finally home-time, so I pack up my desk. I’m taking everything home with me tonight because I’ll be working from home tomorrow.

6.00 PM

I am part of a social sports team with some friends from the grad program, so I get changed and head out to meet them – this week we are playing basketball!

Basketball after work

7.00 PM

Time to go home, have dinner and relax! Ready to wake up and do it all again tomorrow.
