Graduate Auditor

My name is Jamie Sim and I will be graduating from Monash University in June 2024 with a Commerce degree majoring in Accounting and Finance. I started with MCDB Melbourne as an audit intern in November of 2023 and was eventually offered to join the team as a graduate auditor. Below is my normal day in a life working in the audit team with MCDB.

6.45 AM

Alarm rings, it’s time to start the day.

7.00 AM

Kicking off the morning with some preparation and grabbing my pre-packed meal.

8:45 AM

Arrive at office, check my emails and planning out audit task to work on for the day.

9.30 AM

Looking at my calendar and I got assigned to work on an audit for a non-profit organisation. To start, I went to talk to the other team members that are assigned to work on this to discuss about work delegation, risks and matters to focus on to do our audit job better.

10.30 AM

Went to the office pantry to grab some coffee and discovered the brand-new coffee machine.

11.00 AM

Had a catch up with the manager regarding my progress and providing update in different audit engagements that I worked on last week.

12.30 PM

It's lunch time! Today’s lunch will be some spaghetti Bolognese that I’ve prepared over the weekend. I also get to catch up with a few other friends from other services line.

2.00 PM

The firm recently introduce a carbon accounting platform. Had a meeting and group discussion to explore the use of the platform.

2.30 PM

Loaded with information and documents from clients, it’s time to focus and smash out some work.

5.00 PM

Something special is happening at 5 today as there’s a birthday drinks events happening. Had a drink and got the opportunity to talk to other staff about the latest soccer fixtures and match.

5.15 PM

Before works end, had a quick word with the manager regarding the progress of the audit. We are pleased that we managed to get all documents needed and we are in-line with our targets.

6.00 PM

Went home and went for a 10km run. Amazing weather and scenery around the Yarra river.

7.30 PM

Had a quick shower, prepared some dinner and hop onto my couch to watch the latest drive to survive on Netflix.

11.30 PM

It's time to sleep and as usual, had to be scrolling through social media. Sigh, just can’t defeat the Instagram reels addict.
