Lauryn Neto

My favourite time of the week… the HR weekly meeting! Whilst my team talk all day, every day, we do have a specific weekly meeting to keep us all connected and informed on all things HR/ Recruitment, centrally and nationally.

4.25 AM

My first alarm goes off as I proceed to throw my arm off the bed to rapidly press snooze. I aim to be out of bed by 4.30 am to be able to get to the gym prior to work… which doesn’t always happen in winter but today it did! I usually allow myself 15-20minutes in the morning to mentally prepare myself for my morning gym session. I do have quite a strict morning routine due to the limited time I have to fit everything in, so it doesn’t take long for me to get ready and run out the door.

5.00 AM

Gym time! As much as I hate my alarm going off at 4.30 am in the morning, I know that on the days I do go to the gym in the morning, I always feel more energized and ready for the day!

6.45 AM

And the travel begins. As I live in Wollongong and the Acciona Corporate Office is located in The Rocks, Sydney, it is around 1-hour 45-minute commute for me (on a good day). I usually drive to Sutherland train station, park, and catch the train to the office. Mornings are often made worth it when I arrive at Circular Quay and the sun beams over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

8.30 AM

When I arrive at the office, I check for any meetings I have for the day. Today is a special day as it is R U OK? Day so I made sure to check in with the team and some work colleagues before we all start our day.  Subsequently after checking in, I usually get stuck into my emails and discuss with our Recruitment Lead where recruitment processes are up to.

11.00 AM

My first meeting of the day was with the Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Emma Hassett who I am fortunate enough to be collaborating with on a Youth Engagement Strategy which is part of the work done to achieve the goals set in ACCIONA’s Sustainability Master Plan 2025. This strategy is still a work in progress as Emma and I discuss the next steps to engage with the ACCIONA HR community and which elements of the paper should be proposed and implemented in the business. This specific strategy focuses on how we can engage, attract, and develop youth to help inspire and motivate a new generation to join the construction industry.

1.00 PM

Today was a special day as it was R U OK? Day. We were fortunate enough to have the Mates in Construction team come in and provide General Awareness training for all the employees located in the Sydney Corporate Office. There was a special focus on the suicide statistics in the construction industry as we discussed the signs that some might exhibit if they are struggling and the support that can be provided if someone is not ok. The session was an important reminder of the role all Acciona employees play in looking out for each other and supporting the health and safety of all.

Lunch happened to also be provided on this day but on most other days I will visit Gateway, the food court in Circular Quay and grab one of the many options down there.

Acciona-Lauryn Neto-R U Ok meeting 2

2.00 PM

My favourite time of the week… the HR weekly meeting! Whilst my team talk all day, every day, we do have a specific weekly meeting to keep us all connected and informed on all things HR/ Recruitment, centrally and nationally. We’ll first get updated on HR actions taken place nationally. On this specific day, one of the headlines was the implementation of the company’s referral program and the logistics around its administration and implementation activities. We then go around the team and speak of other items being actioned and an update on our current bids and tenders, recruitment and demobilization activities.

3.00 PM

After the meeting, I head back to my desk and action a few items that were discussed during the meeting.  Usually, it’s also snack time which usually involves a fantail and Arnott’s biscuit.

4.00 PM

I log onto the Global Graduate Program University page and engage with the program’s last module: Future Societies. The aim of this module is to acquire a wider vision of the future of work, and the implications of this evolution on people and business.

6.00 PM

Home time! I walk back to the train station and complete my commute home.

7.50 PM

My nighttime routine once I get home involves eating, showering, a bit of sports watching and then straight to bed as I prepare myself to do it all again tomorrow!
