Current Opportunity

Our Indirect Tax team is currently seeking a professional, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join as an Indirect and R&D Tax Graduate. The BDO Indirect Tax practice provides leading edge consulting advice on a range of Federal and State taxes including GST, Payroll Tax, Stamp Duty and Land Tax. The focus of our Government Incentives consultancy is to assist clients in obtaining and maximising the benefit from a range of incentives available to industry including R&D tax incentives and grants.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Drafting and preparation of R&D tax incentive claims.
  • Researching and drafting written advice for GST, payroll tax, stamp duty, and fuel tax credit purposes.
  • Preparation and lodgement of BAS returns, including associated files and workpapers.
  • Researching provisions of tax and indirect tax legislation.
  • Assisting with monthly billing.
  • Maintenance of up to date client files.
  • Providing professional and administrative support and assistance to the Manager and Partner group.

What you'll need to succeed

We welcome students who:

  • Are currently in final year (or recently completed) completing dual degree in Bachelor of Commerce/Business and Law
  • Display solid academic achievement
  • Have strong analytical, critical thinking, organisational and written skills
  • Are involved in extra-curricular activities
  • Collaborative personality who thrives in a team, as well as independently
  • Have motivation for continuous learning and development.
  • Consistently strong written and verbal communication skills including thorough legal research skills
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent resident at time of application
  • Candidates with 1-2 years of postgraduate experience in indirect/R&D tax are also encouraged to apply

You will need to have an interest in and curiosity about technology and business transactions, an ability to work as part of our team and be keen to learn the legal, financial and technical issues associated with this challenging consulting role. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required along with the ability to liaise with technical and financial executives at all levels within a broad range of public and private companies across a range of industries.
