Our new Bachelor of Commerce – Professional Accounting with the degree of a Bachelor of Professional Practice offers you the opportunity to participate in Macquarie’s cooperative education program (Co-op), and adds one year to the standard three-year degree.

In this highly competitive course you will alternate between classroom studies and workplace experience in the form of one three month placement and two six month placements. This will allow you both to apply the concepts you learn in the classroom in a professional context and to integrate your understanding from the workplace in your future studies.

This accounting degree will prepare you to practice as an accountant. You will learn the essential accounting knowledge and a range of business related skills in information technology, statistics, economics, commercial law and financial management. The three industry placements provide opportunities for you to experience different professional contexts and explore your own preferences to help you plan next steps in your career. The program is accredited with the key professional accounting bodies including CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, the Institute of Public Accountants and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

To be successful in gaining entry to the program you must; be completing or have competed the HSC (or equivalent); show a genuine interest and motivation to enter the accounting profession; be active in school and/or community activities; be able to demonstrate exceptional communication, teamwork, problem solving, innovation, service and leadership skills; be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, New Zealand citizen or humanitarian visa holder; and be expecting or have achieved the required ATAR (New Course, ATAR cut-off not yet determined). Bonus points will be considered for this requirement.
