Best known for: They have been repeatedly recognised for their outstanding client service and care (Network of the Year, Best Accounting and Consulting Services Firm, Best Professional Services Firm, etc.)

The good bits: Diverse client-related projects, friendly culture and work-life balance. 

The not so good bits: Although the end result is very positive, the constant training can be a little bit challenging at times. 

HLB's story

HLB Mann Judd is a member of HLB International, the global advisory and accounting network. HLB is a global 10 accounting network with around 40,831 professionals in 156 countries. HLB firms combine global capabilities and local expertise to serve their client's accounting and business needs.

The Mann Judd Association was established in 1982 by the Sydney office. In 1988, the growing association of Australian accounting firms joined the HLB International network. In 1993, they adopted the ‘HLB’ prefix to reflect their increasing participation in the global community.

Today, HLB Mann Judd has offices throughout Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. They have become a reputable name in the business and professional community.

Recruitment Process

Applying for a role 

  • An email address is required to commence the application
  • A brief online application must be completed
  • the application requires a cover letter, resume and academic record

HLB will contact the applicant if they have progressed through to an interview. 

Face-to-face interview

  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview for the role
  • The interviewees will ask questions in an effort to learn more about you
  • Its recommended, to conduct research about the firm (via social media or the HLB Mann Judd website) and bring a list of prepared questions to the interview.

Offer of employment

  • The process for accepting an offer will be shared by HR in the interview. They will outline the steps involved and what is to be expected following the offer
  • Once the offer has been accepted, HLB will share further details related to the start date and onboarding process. 

Day one at HLB

  • The firm has a formalised program to support professional development from day one - including orientation, partner introductions, assignment of a mentor, and a calendar of upcoming social events.

  • The work-life balance, the strong team culture, the ability to work on various clients and engagements and the emphasis placed on learning & development.
  • The people. Getting to work with partners and directors even at a graduate level. You feel you are doing meaningful work that is helping you develop your skills and progress your career.
  • The workplace culture is great. All the staff are extremely nice, helpful and expect a reasonable quality of work from you but are also always willing to sit down and work through something with you.
  • The people! We have got the most wholesome, friendliest and the nicest people you can find and that just helps so much especially when you are starting your first professional job. The tone at the top really does make a difference because this quality is from partners right through to the cadets.
  • The wide variety of clients that we have access to work with directly. I have also formed a bond with a number fellow employees at the firm and the strong staff culture has really assisted this.
  • Well for me it is the commute to the office. It takes me 1 hour each way.
  • Having to complete timesheets.
  • As a graduate when it is very busy or there isn't much work to do often you may have to watch company training videos.
  • We deal with some larger clients with strict deadlines which can put some pressure on delivering tasks.
