The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources develops and implements policies and programmes to ensure Australia's agricultural, fisheries, food and forestry industries remain competitive, profitable and sustainable. We also support the sustainable and productive management and use of rivers and water resources.

We have staff working in offices, airports, mail centres, shipping ports, laboratories and abattoirs. We’re located in regional centres, rural communities and capital cities. Each year we employ graduates from a broad range of disciplines, across areas of science, economics, forecasting, programme and policy implementation.

We are looking for enthusiastic graduates who have a passion for exciting and challenging work, are results oriented and understand the importance of what the department does.

Generalist stream
​​​Our responsibilities as a department are wide-ranging—agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biosecurity, international trade and markets, exports, scientific research and water resources.

The Generalist stream will give you a taste of the expansive work of the department, and you’ll be at the forefront of innovative solutions in the public service.

We may use this process to fill graduate positions in other agencies within the agriculture portfolio, including the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) and the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA).

Finance and Accounting stream
Our responsibilities as a department are wide-ranging—agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biosecurity, international trade and markets, exports, scientific research and water resources.

Our Finance and Accounting stream develops graduates to become trusted financial advisors and business partners across the full range of our business responsibilities

Information and Communication Technology stream
Our responsibilities as a department are wide-ranging—agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biosecurity, international trade and markets, exports, scientific research and water resources.

We are changing the way we work with and support our customers, stakeholders and business to design and develop new, innovative and online enabled services.

We have transitioned our ICT services to be robust, secure and highly reliable and are now focused on modernising our ICT systems and enabling the transformation of service delivery.

We are seeking highly motivated, customer service focused graduates to join the team and provide positive contributions in support of the department’s ICT strategy.
