We believe that we offer a workplace that is a step above others in our market, with a wide range of clients that you will love working and building relationships with. Our teams back balance, combining hard work and fun at just the right level.
You have so many different options that are available to you when you finish studying, and there are many different firms out there for you to choose from.
We want you to choose BDO.
We get to know you – we learn what matters to you and we make it our business to back you to realise your goals.
BDO was first established in New Zealand in 1979. Today, we are one of New Zealand’s largest networks of independently-owned accounting practices, with offices in Kerikeri, Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Napier, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargill. Our national offices are supported by an extensive network of international firms with more than 60,000 people in 150 countries.
Here at BDO, we like to think that our culture is what sets us apart and makes us such a desirable place to work! In the office you’ll experience an open-door culture where you are encouraged to ask questions and your contribution is valued.
From the first day, you’ll be involved in a variety of real client work and will receive help and support from your Partners and team every step of the way. BDO promotes a collaborative working environment that allows you to develop strong networks with your colleagues and learn from each other’s experience.
We know that you want to succeed. But balance is critical. To make sure you continue to enjoy what you love doing while launching into your career, we offer a number of initiatives to make this happen from flexible working hours and remote access options, to health programmes, sporting events and health checks.
Regular social events are run at all member firms, providing an opportunity for Partners and staff to interact outside the normal working environment. Our social clubs organise many key functions throughout the year, from end-of- month drinks, Christmas and end-of-financial-year parties, to fun runs, morning teas, charity events and more. There are plenty of opportunities to get out of the office and socialise, play sport, volunteer in the community and get to know your colleagues a bit better.
On your first day at BDO, you will be assigned a buddy to support and mentor you while you settle into your new role. You’ll participate in a number of different training programs to ensure that you are learning and developing and are able to effectively manage the transition into professional life.
Regular learning and development sessions will equip you with the skills and knowledge to excel in your career and develop exceptional client relationships.
When you’re ready to commence your postgraduate qualification and begin your journey to becoming a Chartered Accountant, BDO will ensure that you are supported through your studies. We provide a great range of assistance for our graduates including payment of approved professional qualifications, paid study leave, mentoring, External Study Support Programs and payment of professional membership fees.
Our secondment programs also provide you with the opportunity to expand your horizons and experience new cultures while gaining great experience working in a new and exciting role.
The BDO International network provides exceptional opportunities to travel, work, learn and play on an international secondment to a BDO office in one of more than 154 countries around the world.
Backing our community
Giving back to the community, where it's needed, is an important part of doing business at BDO. This philosophy is aligned with our firm values and our desire to make a positive and enduring difference. You'll have the opportunity to be involved in our community and charity initiatives through pro bono work, special events and fundraising activities.
Benefits and Rewards
We think that our culture, teams and client work are our main selling point at BDO, but we know that as a graduate, money is important too!
Not only do we provide all graduates with a competitive starting salary, we also offer paid study leave, tuition support and pay for all your professional exam fees, supporting you right throughout your post-university study. We also provide fruit and snacks in the office, drinks on a Friday night, and lots of other paid sporting and social events.
We’d love to talk to you about working for us and what we can do to help you achieve your goals, whether it’s getting your CA, advancing your knowledge, travelling, being part of a team or just getting work experience.
