The work you will do is important. It is a critical part of ensuring a transparent and accountable government.

Why do we exist?
We are a statutory authority, established under the Public Finance and Audit Act 1983. Apart from our financial and performance audits of NSW Government and Local Government, we also examine allegations of serious and substantial waste of public money under the Public Interest Disclosures Act 1994.

Our vision
Our insights inform and challenge government to improve outcomes for citizens.

Our purpose
To help parliament hold government accountable for its use of public resources.

Our graduates join us as they have a passion for making a positive difference for the people of New South Wales, and to jumpstart their professional career in a dynamic, purposeful and supportive organisation. Appointment to the program depends on success at a final interview and successful completion of university studies.

The program offers comprehensive training, excellent progression and promotional opportunities, a competitive remuneration package, full support to gain your professional qualification, flexible work practices, attractive working conditions and the latest in computer technology. After a thorough induction program you’ll join your allocated business team, and most importantly, start putting the theory you learnt at university into practice with your clients.

You will engage with a broad spectrum of people that operate the State’s most important assets and institutions. Collectively, our clients across NSW Government and Local Government manage over $550 billion in assets. Clients include NSW Treasury, Taronga Park Zoo, Transport for NSW, the University of Sydney, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, NSW Police Force and Sydney City Council.
Not only will you have a career with purpose, you will have real work-life balance. Our competitive remuneration packages and commitment to your professional development is balanced with flexible working practices, healthy initiatives and unique personal growth opportunities.

We have a culture of looking after each other. Our deadlines can mean that some months are extremely busy, and it’s all hands-on deck to get the job done. Things can get a little crazy when you’re auditing the entire NSW public sector!
It’s worth it though – we compensate you for the extra work you put in by giving you flexibility at less busy times of the year to balance things out.

Staff can also request flexible working arrangements to pursue interests and commitments outside of work. On a case-by-case basis, we offer a range of options such as part-time work, a compressed working week, job sharing, career breaks, paid parental leave, study leave, family and community service leave, and leave without pay.

Our employee recreation club is very active and organises a wide range of sporting and social activities to celebrate our diversity and bring staff together. Past events have included harbour cruises, Christmas parties and officewide formal dinners. Thanks to their efforts, our staff can also enjoy regular benefits such as Friday happy hours or special discounts on movies and dining.

At the Audit Office, we value who you are!
Diversity is something we live and breathe every day, whether it be through staff celebrations that recognise our backgrounds and beliefs, or our work towards Accessibility for all in the workplace.

We will support you in your studies by providing you with a mentor, study and exam leave and reimbursement of fees.

We support our highly mobile workforce with the latest, high-performance notebook computers and professional business, communication and audit software tools. With their ‘Always On’ approach, our Technology Services team will be there to support you no matter where or when you are working.

You will learn a modern international standard audit methodology, and apply sophisticated data analytic audit tools and approaches.

The Auditor of the Future is technologically savvy and an expert curator of data. We are here to help you become that auditor.
